• Federal Judge: Trump Administration Likely Committed Criminal Contempt Over El Salvador Deportation Flights

A federal judge ruled that the Trump administration likely violated a court order by proceeding with deportation flights to El Salvador—potentially committing criminal contempt. The flights deported over 260 individuals, including Kilmar Ábrego García, a legally authorized Maryland resident, despite a restraining order halting removals.

The administration argued the flights were already airborne when the order was issued, but Judge James Boasberg slammed the move as “willful disobedience.” Even after a Supreme Court directive, officials failed to repatriate García, who remains detained in El Salvador.

Legal experts say this ruling could escalate into serious consequences for former officials, sparking a deeper battle over executive power, immigration enforcement, and judicial authority.

  • El Salvador Refuses to Return Wrongly Deported Maryland Man Despite U.S. Supreme Court Order

In a high-profile immigration dispute, El Salvador’s President Nayib Bukele has refused to return Kilmar Abrego García, a Maryland resident mistakenly deported to El Salvador, defying a U.S. Supreme Court directive.

Abrego García, who had legal protection against deportation due to threats from gangs in El Salvador, was erroneously deported on March 15, 2025, following an administrative error by U.S. Immigration and Customs Enforcement (ICE). Despite a 2019 court ruling barring his removal, he was sent to El Salvador’s high-security Terrorism Confinement Center (CECOT), where he remains detained without charges.

The U.S. Supreme Court ordered the Trump administration to facilitate Abrego García’s return. However, President Bukele labeled him a “terrorist” and dismissed the court’s directive as “preposterous,” asserting he lacks the authority to release him. U.S. officials, including Attorney General Pam Bondi, have argued that the responsibility now lies with El Salvador, adding complexity to his repatriation.

This case has intensified debates over immigration policy and international cooperation, highlighting tensions between judicial mandates and executive actions.
