• New Orleans Jail Worker Accidentally Helped 10 Inmates Escape — Thought He Was Unclogging a Toilet
You can’t make this up. A jail employee in New Orleans allegedly assisted in a 10-person escape after mistaking the breakout plan for a plumbing issue.
According to his lawyer, he believed he was just “unclogging a toilet.”
Now he's at the center of one of the most embarrassing prison breaches in recent memory.

Was it a setup? Negligence? Or the worst case of "wrong place, wrong plunger" ever recorded?

New Orleans jail worker thought he was unclogging a toilet, not helping 10 escape, lawyer says
Ten men who broke out of a New Orleans jail last week clogged a toilet to get the water shut off so that they could escape through a hole behind it, a lawyer for a maintenance worker who is charged with helping them said Wednesday. The worker, Sterling Williams, did not know about the men's plan and did not allow the inmates to cut a pipe behind the toilet to create an opening for their escape, attorney Michael Kennedy told The Associated Press. Williams, 33, was arrested Tuesday.

  • Flood Threats Hit New Orleans and New York: Cities Grapple with Rising Waters

Major urban centers on both ends of the East Coast are under pressure as intense storms bring widespread flooding risks.

In New Orleans, days of heavy rain have triggered flash flood warnings, breaking decades-old rainfall records. Streets are inundated, and emergency alerts remain in effect. The National Weather Service has issued a Level 3 out of 4 flood risk across the region.

Meanwhile in New York, the recent storm system has eased, but flood risks linger due to oversaturated soil and high river levels. Urban drainage systems remain under strain, and minor flooding is expected in low-lying and coastal areas through Tuesday.

These extreme weather patterns once again highlight the vulnerabilities of America’s aging infrastructure and the growing need for climate-resilient upgrades.
