  • El Salvador Refuses to Return Wrongly Deported Maryland Man Despite U.S. Supreme Court Order

In a high-profile immigration dispute, El Salvador’s President Nayib Bukele has refused to return Kilmar Abrego García, a Maryland resident mistakenly deported to El Salvador, defying a U.S. Supreme Court directive.

Abrego García, who had legal protection against deportation due to threats from gangs in El Salvador, was erroneously deported on March 15, 2025, following an administrative error by U.S. Immigration and Customs Enforcement (ICE). Despite a 2019 court ruling barring his removal, he was sent to El Salvador’s high-security Terrorism Confinement Center (CECOT), where he remains detained without charges.

The U.S. Supreme Court ordered the Trump administration to facilitate Abrego García’s return. However, President Bukele labeled him a “terrorist” and dismissed the court’s directive as “preposterous,” asserting he lacks the authority to release him. U.S. officials, including Attorney General Pam Bondi, have argued that the responsibility now lies with El Salvador, adding complexity to his repatriation.

This case has intensified debates over immigration policy and international cooperation, highlighting tensions between judicial mandates and executive actions.

  • Hundreds of Delta Passengers Trapped Overnight on Planes After Diversion to Airport With No Customs

In a travel nightmare for nearly 300 passengers, two Delta flights from Mexico were diverted to Montgomery Regional Airport in Alabama — an airport with no U.S. Customs processing facility.

The diverted international flights from Mexico City and Cabo San Lucas, originally bound for Atlanta’s Hartsfield-Jackson International Airport, were rerouted due to severe storms.

Upon landing around 10:30 p.m., passengers were forced to stay locked on board until 5 a.m. the next morning because:
The airport had no Customs agents
Crew members had hit their legal time limits
Passengers were not legally allowed to deplane

Delta has since issued apologies, full refunds, and committed to improving emergency rerouting protocols.
