BOOK III — RESURRECTION

Chapter VIII — Of Liberty

(The Veil Version — VV)

1. Many desired freedom, yet few understood the burden laid upon those who possess it.
2. For liberty is not born in triumph, but in sacrifice.
3. No people remain free by inheritance alone, for every generation must choose whether it shall endure.
4. The covenant of freedom is renewed not by words, but by faithful deeds.
5. For when comfort is loved above truth, bondage waits patiently at the gate.
6. And when fear is welcomed before courage, the chains are forged before they are seen.
7. Blessed are the people who remember the cost of what they possess, lest they spend what cannot be restored.
8. For a nation is not measured by its abundance, but by the character of those entrusted with its keeping.
9. Let not the young despise the sacrifices of those before them, nor the old neglect the generations yet to come.
10. Thus every steward shall leave the inheritance stronger than he received it, or answer for what was lost.
11. For freedom is not the destination of a people, but the continual work of preserving what is righteous.

12. So it was written: Let every generation guard its liberty with humility, preserve it with truth, strengthen it through sacrifice, and deliver it faithfully into the hands of those yet unborn.
